Note: This story began as my attempt at testing the capacities of generative AI as they stand in February 2024, when I could not sleep one night and out of boredom. I asked ChatGPT 4.0 Turbo to generate a romantic comedy that is a cutesy mess of utopian and dystopian futures. This whole thing was written by artificial intelligence, based on a few prompts. To make it easy to imagine such a world, I created an initial concept in which (someone like) Greta Thunberg and (someone like) Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez take over the country as benevolent yet autocratic leaders following a long period of chronic political dysfunction in the United States, and implement an array of progressive policies. I spent about 3.50 Nano (XNO) to generate this story, as costs go up as a story develops, since all the previous texts are used as prompts to build the story on top of what has been written already. Remember, this whole thing was generated by artificial intelligence!

OPENING SCENE

Opening shot: A sweeping aerial view of a city transformed — vibrant community gardens where shopping malls once stood, cooperative workshops buzzing with activity, and colorful murals replacing advertisements.

Voiceover (Greta Thunberg): "We sparked a revolution not just of policy, but of the heart and mind. Our 'human rights first' constitution is the bedrock of this new dawn."

Cut to an intimate, warmly lit meeting room within a reeducational facility — an architectural masterpiece harmonizing nature and modern design, inscribed with: "Freedom Through Understanding."

Inside, a group of former corporate executives and politicians sit in a circle, engaged in dialogue. Their expressions show a mixture of resistance, contemplation, and revelation as an empathetic instructor guides the conversation.

Instructor: "Let's explore the concept of wealth beyond currency. How can we enrich each other's lives without transaction?"

Scene transition to a lush garden where inmates tend to plants under the guidance of ecologists. One of the ecologists is a passionate young volunteer, explaining permaculture to a captivated group.

Ecologist: "Each plant supports the other, no waste, no want. This is the essence of our new society — interconnected, sustainable, thriving together."

Meanwhile, President Thunberg and Premier Ocasio-Cortez convene in a minimalist, eco-friendly office, the walls adorned with plans for renewable energy cities.

Ocasio-Cortez: "The transition emergency is delicate. We have to ensure that our approach to reeducation honors the very principles we fought for."

Thunberg: "Absolutely. It's not just about changing minds, but healing the scars of capitalism's neglect."

Cut to a montage of scenes: a dance therapy session where former reactionaries move to the rhythm of emotive music; a culinary class where people laugh and learn to cook plant-based meals; a tech lab where people collaborate, designing tools for an equitable society.

Voiceover continues: "The facilities are more than centers for reeducation; they're incubators for empathy, spaces for solidarity to grow."

As the story unfolds, we follow Maya, a former corporate lawyer, who initially resists the programming, wary and cynical. Her journey is central, showing the internal struggle between old ideologies and the new world unfolding before her.

Through her eyes, we see the transformative impact of the 'paradise' reeducation: from contentious debates to moments of genuine connection and understanding with her fellow residents; from reluctant participation in restorative justice circles to heartfelt reconciliation with those wronged by her past actions.

Clip: Maya (reflective), in a restorative justice circle: "I never saw the people behind the numbers. I never realized... I'm sorry."

The climax showcases Maya's transformation, symbolized by a ceremony where she plants a tree in the facility's 'Garden of New Beginnings', surrounded by individuals who've journeyed from skepticism to embodying the ideals of the new society.

Maya (voiceover during the ceremony): "We were uprooted from the soil of a dying system. Here, we're nurtured, so we can grow. Learning to be human again, in a world where rights lead the way."
