Casting Call: Nonbinary Models for Figurative Portrait Art Series

Art Project Title: “Themself.” (a working title - it will likely be something else.)

Artist: Willow

Location: Greater Portland, Oregon metropolitan area.

Project Overview: Willow, a visual artist, is seeking nonbinary individuals to feature in a powerful and socially-conscious figurative portrait art series. This project aims to celebrate diversity, challenge societal norms, and address the escalation of hate and disinformation by highlighting the beauty and authenticity of nonbinary people. The final work will be a series of expressive paintings accompanied by curated quotes from genuine discussions with participating models.

We Are Looking For:

Nonbinary individuals who are comfortable and consensual with the idea of undressing for art in a respectful and professional environment. Participants who are open to engaging in conversations about their life experiences which may be used as part of the project narrative. Ages 18 and above— all body types, ethnicities, and backgrounds are welcome as we strive for representation and inclusivity. No modeling experience is necessary, but comfort with self-expression and willingness to collaborate are key.

Details:

Number of Models Needed: Approximately 5 to 7 for the initial series, may expand if successful.

Location: TBD. I'd prefer to do this on-location in the home of a participant but we can arrange for an alternative especially if there are multiple models who are interested in scheduling on the same day.

Compensation: Each model will receive at least one original artwork of their choosing from the finished product. Right now my plan is to make this into a digital exhibit, but should I decide to enter one or more of the finished artwork into an art show or an art festival, I will let you know about the show and also when and if the artwork will be available to you.

Project Duration: Ongoing starting February 2024, most likely scheduling more sessions in spring and summer.

Participant Commitment:

• One preliminary meeting to discuss the project and individual comfort levels.
• One art session lasting between 2 to 3 hours.
• An interview discussing personal perspectives and experiences (I will be taking notes, and may also record audio. The audio files are used for the sole purpose of accurate quoting, they will be destroyed once I gather interesting quotes).
• Anonymity/pseudonymity can be respected upon request.
